Living Built In

CORBUSIER FAMOUSLY SAID "A HOUSE IS A MACHINE FOR LIVING IN." The most important part of this quote, and I know Lescaze would agree, is the "living" part. The modular built-ins of the Townhouse were almost ship-like in their efficiency, a trademark of the International Style. Having a place for eveything, exactly where you might need it, maximized space and order and made life better. Lescaze even called the 2nd bedroom the "Daughter's Headquarters," and designed it with a place for all a young girl's things (shown at top).
We’ve come a long way baby! Modular interior functionality was mastered by Le Corbu's peers Charlotte Perriand and Eileen Gray, who created vacation and resort homes ahead of their time (see above). Designers and architects have since pushed the concept of modular efficiency even farther into the future. While to the cool (but gas-guzzling) Airstream looked futuristic in the 1960s, new materials and technology, combined with ingenuity and intention, have resulted in a whole new level of "mod to go." Combined with new solar technology, you can be fully mobile. As long as you don't bring along any clutter!
