AIPAD Photography Show
Today I went to check out the Association of International Photography Art Dealers Photography Show at the Park Avenue Armory.
If you want to check it out it will be in town through Sunday, $25 for a one-day pass and $10 for a student pass.
There was a wide variety of photographic styles represented at the show from contemporary, modern and nineteenth-century photographs, as well as photo-based art, video, and new media.
There were a few standout photographers that I discovered today. One of the busiest booths was for 798 Photo Gallery from Beijing, China. There I saw work of Liu Xiaofang and Yu Xiao, both of which focus their work on children set in dream-like worlds. While I was there they were quickly selling out of all of their prints!
These two artists are definitely ones to watch.
Free Arts NYC Annual Art Auction
It’s about that time of year again! The Free Arts NYC annual art auction benefit is just on the horizon. If you haven’t come across this organization before they provide creative arts programs to under-served children and families.
The event will be held on April 23rdwith a cocktail reception at Eyebeam followed by silent auction and live auction by Alexander Gilkes of Paddle8. Artworks will be previewed and available for bidding in advance on Paddle8’s website.
There are some tremendous featured artists this year including Cecily Brown, Dan Colen, Tara Donovan, Wade Guyton, Ryan McGinness, James Nares, Yoko Ono, Richard Serra, and Christopher Wool.
Some of my favorite work is the Rock n' Roll photography by Stephan Mao and Roberta Bayley.
The Ramones, CBGB 1976
The Rolling Stones
Sid Vicious, Dallas, Texas 1978
Artworks can be previewed in advance here, and tickets to the event are also available online.
More of my favorite pieces to come tomorrow!
